The symbol used by Studio Nagarajan is tied closely to several mythological legends that span several cultures and religions including Norse, Druidic, Welsh, Irish, Christian, Jewish, Gnostic and Hindu but the least popular/heard of and possibly, the closest one is the Hindu tale of the churning of the ocean of milk(Milky Way) by the gods and demons to produce a nectar of immortality called Amrit.

At an unknown time in the past, there were several ongoing battles between the gods and the demons. Due to a disrespectful action by one of the gods to a priest, they were all cursed and as a result, they started losing the war. They approached one of the Triune(Creator, Maintainer & Destroyer), The Maintainer, to help sort out this issue of theirs as they eventually lost to the demons, who now ruled the universe. The Maintainer advises them to form an alliance with the demons to churn the ocean of milk in order to create a nectar of immortality.

The procedure involved using the king of serpents, known as Vasuki who would be tied around a mountain that is to be rotated in the ocean of milk. This was done by the demons holding onto the thousand heads of the snake and the gods holding the tail, and moving back and forth. Later in the process, due to the pain from the torture, Vasuki started to bleed a rich and devastating venom(Halahala: meaning black mass/time puzzle) that was so toxic that it not only began to kill the demons nearby, it also started burning the fabric of reality itself and if this wasn't stopped, the universe will face a cessation of existence. In ancient legends, it is known that another name for Vasuki is Anantha which means infinite or endless, the underlying idea is that its existence paradoxically transcends the birth and death of the universe. Of course, this matter wasn't fully considered by the gods when it was used for this procedure.

One other of the Triune, The Destroyer was spoken to, by the gods, in fear, and told of the ongoing burning of space-time by the black mass/time puzzle/venom. He was surprised to note that while this was his job, ergo the destruction of the universe, there was a powerful being causing it earlier than planned. He approached Vasuki and swallowed the venom. His wife noticed this happening and fearing that The Destroyer himself could be destroyed in the process, she applied a tourniquet of sorts using her hands to choke him and hold the poison within his neck turning him blue.

This story eerily resembles the interactions of space and time with gravity to produce the super-massive black hole at the galactic center of the Milky Way, that consumes everything around it. Also of note is that the information that enters the event horizon is never truly lost and is emitted back to the universe in the form of Hawking radiation(named after the late great Professor Sir Stephen Hawking). This could possibly be what the nectar of immortality, Amrit, alludes to.

The nectar of immortality was then created and used by the gods after they cheated the demons into letting them take it all. Vasuki was then taken and worn by The Destroyer around his neck as an ornament as it was too dangerous to be let loose on existence.
